ChatComm 911 Service
The Chattahoochee River 911 Authority (ChatComm) serves as the 911 emergency call center for the City of Sandy Springs.
ChatComm was established in 2009 through a joint partnership between the cities of Sandy Springs and Johns Creek and operates using a public-private partnership model with IXP Corporation.
A two-member Board of Directors oversees ChatComm, with each participating city manager appointing one representative.
ChatComm’s primary performance standards include:
- Answering 90 percent of 911 calls within 10 seconds
- Processing 90 percent of calls for dispatch within 60 seconds
In addition to Sandy Springs and Johns Creek, the cities of Dunwoody and Brookhaven currently subscribe to ChatComm services.
Under the federal Mobile Telecommunications Sourcing Act, the taxes collected from your cell phone bill are based on your primary place of use and billing address. These taxes help support local emergency services, including 911 operations.
Whether you have recently moved or not, reviewing and updating your billing information can help ensure local emergency services receive appropriate funding.
VoIP and 911
Access to 911 services is an important part of public safety and emergency preparedness. If you use Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone service, there are important limitations and considerations you should understand regarding 911 functionality.
