In projects involving a partial demolition, permitting is typically obtained as part of a Residential Building Permit or Commercial Building Permit. Examples of this include the demotion of interior walls or of exterior structures such as a carport.

Applicants should plan for, at a minimum, a pre-construction meeting and a final site inspection. Buildings built prior to 1974 have the potential for asbestos, lead-based paint, and other regulated materials. A state-licensed demolition contractor is required to present these materials have been removed and disposed of in accordance with State of Georgia requirements. Proof of safe removal and disposal from the State of Georgia is required prior to demolition of any structure built prior to 1974.
