Developments of Regional Impact (DRIs) are large-scale projects likely to impact geographies and jurisdictions beyond the local jurisdiction in which they are located. The Georgia Planning Act of 1989 authorized the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) to create procedures for review of these projects. In Sandy Springs, DRIs are reviewed by the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC), the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA), and adjacent jurisdictions for local and regional impacts on existing and proposed infrastructure, including traffic, transit, schools, and more.
