Fire Extinguisher Training

The Community Affairs Office offers hands-on fire extinguisher training using a state-of-the-art fire extinguisher simulator.

Portable fire extinguishers are used to extinguish thousands of fires each year. They are required in commercial occupancies, public buildings, multifamily residential complexes, and certain outdoor operations such as gas stations, tents, and hot tar roofing projects.

Fire extinguishers are also strongly recommended for private residences and personal, service, or food truck vehicles when not otherwise required.

All commercial fire extinguishers must be serviced annually by a state-approved fire extinguisher servicing company.

Extinguishers should display a service tag or decal showing the date of the most recent inspection or service. If the service date is more than one year old, the extinguisher should be serviced.

If you need to use a fire extinguisher, remember the acronym PASS:

  • P — Pull the pin
  • A — Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire
  • S — Squeeze the handle slowly
  • S — Sweep the nozzle from side to side
