Join parade artist Chantelle Rytter as she leads Lantern Workshops on Saturday, April 6. Learn how to create your very own Lantern Parade "Everybody Puppet!"
It’s your design. Your lantern puppet could be an animal, character, or an original creature. Think of them as a fantastical second self, a playful critter native to the world of the lantern parade!
Open to artists of all ages. Lantern puppets are easy to create; they can be as simple or elaborate as you'd like. However, this project is best for ages capable of using scissors and respecting hot glue. Kids must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
All materials are provided, including lights and batteries. These lantern puppets are made from a 16” globe lantern decorated with colored tissue paper on a carry-stick with paper arms and body. We’re using pre-cut paper hands on rods that make for easy clapping and high-fives.
Tickets are available now. Tickets are $25 per lantern. Two people are welcome to work on one lantern puppet, but please no more than two. The workshop will take every bit of 2.5 hours, so please be on time to get all the instructions.

These workshops are with parade artist Chantelle Rytter for the 9th Sandy Springs Lantern Parade on April 13, 2024!
Chantelle Rytter is a parade artist best known for founding the Atlanta Beltline Lantern Parade in 2010 with the Krewe of the Grateful Gluttons, of which she is the proud Captain. Chantelle has created a family of annual lantern parades based in community participation over the last 14 years in Sandy Springs, Midtown, Hapeville, and Hilton Head Island. Chantelle grew up in Baltimore and studied integrative arts at Penn State University. She lived in New Orleans for 10 years and fell under the spell of parade culture and the notion that creative play can be a civic gift. You're invited to march in every parade: www.weirdgonepro.com
