The work, scheduled to begin Monday, Sept. 30, will include excavation and grading to channel water away from the dog park. Fixing the grade requires tree removal. The construction will take approximately 6-8 weeks, weather permitting. During this time the park will be closed.
Last spring, the City held multiple meetings requesting input from the community regarding what improvements they’d like to see to the dog park. One of the common complaints was the need to create dry conditions for pet owners, many who expressed complaints that their dogs come home “too muddy” after a visit to the dog park.
The work is centered around a ditch that has become overgrown with silt, tree limbs, and tree root systems. Collectively, water overflows the ditch and finds its way into the large dog area, resulting in a muddy experience.
A future phase will include shade structures, benches, washing stations, and more.
