City of Sandy Springs Announces Details Surrounding This Year’s Juneteenth Celebration

April 24, 2025

The City of Sandy Springs is proud to announce its 2025 Juneteenth Celebration, taking place on Thursday, June 19 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at City Springs. This family-friendly event is free and open to the public, offering a vibrant mix of educational experiences, live performances, and immersive art exhibitions in honor of Juneteenth.

This year’s celebration highlights powerful collaborations with local arts and educational organizations including Namari Dance Center, LIQUID Arts & Productions, and the Fulton County Public Library - along with contributions from students and community partners – thoughtfully curated to reflect the cultural diversity and historical significance of the day. Highlights include:

  • In Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center’s Byers Theatre, Namari Dance Center’s professional artists and students will present "IMANI" — Swahili for faith — a powerful production that tells how spiritual faith sustained enslaved Africans through bondage and into freedom on June 19, 1865. Through dance, vocals, live painting, choir, and spoken word, the show traces a journey from enslavement to liberation.
  • The Juneteenth STEAM Digital Art Exhibition, created through LIQUID Arts and Productions' STEAM program, will feature immersive digital and augmented reality artworks by local eighth grade and high school students, on display in Byers Lobby. Students receive training on digital drawing and painting, animation and more to create a piece that responds to the question - "How does knowing history shape our path to peace and harmony?"

On City Green, the outdoor celebration will include a range of interactive and educational activities, such as:

  • NEW Juneteenth Scavenger Hunt
  • Genealogical Research Exhibit, in partnership with Family Search and the Metro Atlanta Chapter of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society
  • West African Community Drum Circle, an energizing and joyful Community Drum Circle where all are welcome to bring drums, shakers, tambourines, or any percussion instrument to join in this vibrant, rhythmic celebration of freedom, unity, and culture.
  • Live entertainment
  • Food Trucks, local vendors, arts & crafts, games, and more

Through a meaningful lineup of performances, exhibitions, and educational experiences, the Sandy Springs Juneteenth Celebration creates space for remembrance, celebration, and reflection for the entire community. The schedule includes:

  • 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.:
    • Outdoor Celebration on City Green
    • LIQUID Arts & Productions' Digital Art Exhibition and Experience (Byers Lobby)
    • Food Trucks, Music, Games, and Activities for All Ages
  • 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.: City of Sandy Springs & Namari Dance Production (Byers Theatre)
