Sandy Springs, GA (February 13, 2025) — The City of Sandy Springs is thrilled to announce the return of the annual Lantern Parade on Saturday, April 5, along Morgan Falls Road to Overlook Park. This family-friendly Signature Event invites participants of all ages to bring a lantern and join the parade, followed by a lively display along the Chattahoochee River. The pre-parade block party, including food trucks and music, will kick off at Steel Canyon Golf Club at 6 p.m., with the parade stepping off at 8:15 p.m.
Unlike traditional parades, the Lantern Parade offers an interactive experience, allowing attendees to bring their own lantern creations to life. Participants can make their own lantern before the event and march in the parade as part of a stunning, imaginative light display. There are plenty of ways to get involved, from crafting DIY lanterns with kits available throughout the City to attending expert-led Lantern Workshops.
This year, acclaimed Lantern Parade artist Chantelle Rytter will host guided workshops, scheduled for March 29 and 30 at the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center. In honor of the City’s upcoming 20th anniversary, a special edition lantern kit will be available, and Rytter will guide participants in creating this exclusive design. Those who craft this unique lantern will have the honor of marching at the front of the parade with Sanderson, the famous flying pig lantern. Workshops are expected to reach capacity, so registration is required.
Once their lanterns are ready, participants will join the parade, which will march along Morgan Falls Road. Alongside the 20th anniversary lantern design, new creations will make their debut, including the Fantastical Bird and Fantastical Botanicals lanterns. Spectators are welcome to line the sidewalks to witness this magical spectacle.
After the parade concludes near the Chattahoochee River, guests will enjoy a breathtaking display of hundreds of glowing lanterns, including five lanterns floating on the river in collaboration with the National Park Service’s Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.
