SANDY SPRINGS, GA (Feb. 27, 2024) The City of Sandy Springs is proud to announce that it has received a Public Protection Classification (PPC) of 1 from the Insurance Services Office (ISO).
This is the highest rating possible and signifies Sandy Springs has exemplary fire protection capabilities. The ISO analyzes the relevant data and assigns a PPC grade – a number from 1 to 10. Class 1 represents the highest level of fire protection services. The rating will take effect on June 1, 2024.
Sandy Springs is one of only 24 fire departments in Georgia and 503 nationwide with the ISO Class 1 rating. There are currently 710 fire departments statewide and 37,983 nationwide with an ISO rating. In 2011, the Sandy Springs Fire Department ISO rating was 3/3x. In 2016, it was increased to an ISO rating of 2.
The Public Protection Classification (PPC) program evaluates fire protection capabilities based on factors such as fire department operations, water supply, emergency communications, and community risk reduction efforts.
“This is a tremendous accomplishment that reflects the tireless commitment and dedication of the Sandy Springs Fire Department,” said Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul. “Sandy Springs is proud to receive this recognition, and it is a testament to the City’s commitment to public safety.”
Achieving an ISO 1 rating is a significant accomplishment, representing the highest level of fire protection services. According to the ISO, “the price of fire insurance in a community with a good PPC grade is substantially lower than in a community with a poor PPC grade.”
