Sandy Springs, GA (July 1, 2024) —The City of Sandy Springs today celebrated the grand opening of Sandy Springs Fire Station 5, located at 7800 Mount Vernon Road at the corner of Spalding Drive. The new, 10,912 square-foot, two-story facility now serves the City’s Panhandle region. Mayor Rusty Paul, City Council, City Manager Eden Freeman, and Fire Chief Keith Sanders were joined by Station 5 crew for the ceremonial hose uncoupling.
“This is a very special day and a historic day in the City of Sandy Springs,” said Fire Chief Keith Sanders. “This state-of-the-art facility will provide our dedicated firefighters with the resources they need to respond to emergencies more efficiently and effectively.”
Designed to blend in with the residential charm of the neighborhood, SSFD Fire Station 5 contains a two-bay apparatus storage room, sleeping quarters, kitchen, conference room, climbing wall, and more. Decontamination showers and gear wash stations with state-of-the-art decontamination equipment have also been installed to allow firefighters to remove toxins after returning from fighting a fire.
Fire Station 5 is the first new station the City has built and will address the prolonged response times to EMS and fire calls for services reported by residents. This area is currently served by Fire Station No. 51, located on Spalding Drive at Roberts Dr., with support from Engine 55, housed at the City of Roswell’s Fire Station No. 27 on Holcomb Bridge Road.
“The sweetest sound when you're in an emergency is the sound of the siren because you know that help is on its way,” added Mayor Rusty Paul to those in attendance. “This new station brings us much closer to this part of the city, and your presence here indicates that you really care about what goes on in this community, and how we deliver the kinds of services that you pay for.”
