Sandy Springs Receives Excellence in Financial Reporting Award

August 19, 2021

The City of Sandy Springs has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. The award recognizes the City’s comprehensive annual financial report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2020.

“I am honored to accept this award on behalf of the City of Sandy Springs,” said Mayor Rusty Paul. “This is a tremendous honor and I couldn’t be more proud of our finance department – not just for this award, but for their commitment to excellence year-round. This award, along with our Aaa bond rating from Moody’s, further underscores the high financial standards we have for the City of Sandy Springs.”

The City’s report was found to have met the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.

“I am thrilled that the City was recognized with this award,” said Toni Jo Howard, Director of Finance for the City of Sandy Springs. “Credit goes to our team of dedicated finance professionals who work tirelessly to serve our citizens.”

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
