Path 400 Multiuse Trail Extension

Description: The Path 400 Multiuse Trail will extend the existing 5.1-mile path from Loridans Drive north to the GA 400/I-285 Interchange.

Status: Construction scheduled to begin March 2025

Project Description

The Path 400 Multiuse Trail will extend the existing 5.1-mile path from Loridans Drive north to the GA 400/I-285 Interchange. The path will be built primarily within the existing Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) right-of-way along GA 400. The extension will also provide connectivity to the proposed multiuse paths on Peachtree Dunwoody Road and Mt Vernon Highway.

The Path 400 project is included within the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (T-SPLOST) program approved by voters in Sandy Springs and Fulton County as part of the T-SPLOST referendum passed in November 2016. The project was also included in the voter approved TSPLOST 2 referendum in November 2021.

August 2024-Sandy Springs City Council approves construction agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT).

The agreement outlines the expectations and requirements for both parties as they relate to the receipt of federal funds for the construction of the Project. GDOT is the direct recipient of funds from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and will provide oversight of the project and administer the funds.

May 2024-Sandy Springs City Council Approves Construction Contract

The City Council approved a contract award in the amount of $20,150,923.94 to F.S. Scarbrough. The construction of this project is funded through a combination of local and federal funds through the Georgia Department of Transportation. Additionally, on January 2, 2024, the city approved an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Atlanta to pay for a portion of the project that will be constructed within the Atlanta city limits.

The Path 400 Trail Extension is the northern segment of PATH 400, a 5.2-mile walkable, bikeable trail, being constructed adjacent to State Route 400. It will extend from Loridans Drive to the southern part of the City of Sandy Springs inside the Perimeter. The proposed project will construct a 1.8-mile portion of the trail located within the limits of Sandy Springs, which will ultimately total 2.3 miles.

The project has been divided into three segments, the limits of which have been adjusted to fully utilize the current construction funding. Segments 1 and 3 will be constructed as part of this project. Segment 2 will be constructed when funds become available. Segment one extends north from Nancy Creek to Windsor Parkway. Segment 3 will extend north from Ridgeview Park to north of the Glenridge Connector, connecting to the multi-use trail constructed as part of the Transform 285/400 project.
